Jessica Alba ("Never
Been Kissed") has been cast in the title role of "Dark
Angel," the first series TV project from James Cameron and Charles
Eglee for Fox Broadcasting. Alba will play Max, a genetically
enhanced human prototype who escapes her military handlers and is hunted
through the underground street life of 21st century San Francisco. The
futuristic one-hour drama is set to bow on Fox sometime next year.
"Dark Angel" is the first project
from Cameron and Eglee under their exclusive development deal with 20th
Century Fox TV and a first-look deal with Fox. In September 1998,
Cameron and Eglee formed the joint TV venture that's headed by
Lightstorm Entertainment president Rae Sanchini. "After
carefully exploring the universe of emerging new talent, I can say
without hesitation that Jessica Alba's craft puts her in a class all her
own," Eglee said. "Jim and Chic (Eglee) have set their
sights on readying 'Dark Angel' for the year 2000 and we couldn't be
more excited to be partnered with them on what looks to be the most
anticipated television project of the new millennium," said Sandy
Grushow, 20th Century Fox TV president. Alba, who is represented by
Chris Henze of Somers Teitelbaum David and attorney Patti Felker, is set
to appear in the upcoming film "Idle Hands" directed by Rodman
Flender.
